Hello to my NEW 7th grade students! Let's be honest with each other - this is going to be a weird start to the school year. We are meeting each other virtually, so that we can keep our school community safe during this pandemic. It's not ideal, but that's life…we have to do our best anyways!

Good morning students and families,
In an effort to make my classwork as accessible and easy-to-use as possible, I will switch to Google Classroom. Please log into your google classroom and then add my class: Google Classroom Codes: Period 1 - adro7zi Period 2 - am2tkga Period 3 - wbclk64 Period 4 - us6k5cn Period 5 - kkyhk5c I will update each day with a short assignment for you to complete. These assignments should take you about 15-30 minutes each to complete. Again, all work between March 16th - March 31st is optional and does not affect your grade. This is true for ALL classes at RMMS. Love, Ms. Cliffe ………………………………………………………………………....………………………………………………………………………....…………………………… Gracias, Ms. Cliffe Hello 7th grade students and families.

-Sra. Cliffe We did it, 7th grade...we made it to winter break! I have really enjoyed my time with these students so far. We have investigated 2 real-world problems so far... - During "Matter and Energy in Ecosystems", we investigated what went wrong in "the biodome", and had to apply our knowledge of photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and the carbon cycle. - During "Chemical Reactions", we found out what a mysterious substance in the town's water was, and applied our understanding of the Law of Conservation of Mass to explain how it was formed. At the end of each semester, I give the students a survey to identify what is going well in class, and what I can work to improve. I want to share some of the highlights with you here: I wanted to share these 3 question results because they really make me feel proud. As a teacher, my goal is to TEACH every student, every day. Over 90% told me that you learn something new most days. Even when the material is difficult, 97% of you still feel like you can learn and achieve!
This year, we tried out a new curriculum called Amplify. It has been difficult to implement this new curriculum because it is very tech-dependent, and it has been a steep learning curve for myself. But I'm really excited to see that almost 80% of students usually find the Amplify curriculum interesting. For the other 20%, I hear you - I will keep working to make it relevant and feel more doable. Hello students and parents, We are halfway through unit 2 (Chemical Reactions). Students have investigated what's going on in the fictional town of Westfield...they learned that the mysterious reddish-brown substance in the water is actually rust, which formed because of a chemical reaction between the iron pipes and the fertilizer substance in the water. Now, we are investigating whether or not the chemical reaction produced another substance as well. We took our Mid-Unit Assessment last week, which was a formative test. Those results show us that although many students understand the basic ideas, we are still struggling to understand exactly how substances get rearranged to form new substances. Students read "What Happens When Fuel Burns?" in class to begin Chapter 3. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we will do a lab to prove that matter is conserved during chemical reactions. Thanks for staying informed. You can always follow what we're doing in class by going to the instagram page @ms_cliffe. -Ms. Cliffe
Hello families, Our second unit is well underway. So far, we have discussed what substances are made of. Students read "Atomic Zoom-In" to understand what atoms are, and read "Synthetic Materials" to understand how we can use chemical reactions to create new substances. We have also been working through a fictional problem - what is creating a reddish-brown substance to come out of the pipes of Westfield? So far, we have learned that the substance is actually rust. We will soon learn how that rust was formed. Thank you for staying updated with our class. You can always see the latest by checking out our instagram page! @ms_cliffe Thank you, Ms. Cliffe
Hello parents and students,
We are already HALFWAY THROUGH our first semester together! Time is going by quickly, and we are getting a lot of work done. We just finished Unit 1, which covered... - Photosynthesis - Cellular Respiration - Biotic and Abiotic Matter Plus, students acted as scientist detectives by finding out WHAT HAPPENED to the biodome project! We have also enjoyed our first field trip together...I really had a great time spending the day at the Natural History Museum with these classes. I hope they had fun (and learned a bit as well!) You can always find more updates and pictures on the Ms. Cliffe instagram account: @ms_cliffe Thanks for reading. Happy October! -Ms. Cliffe Welcome back to school everyone! I am already enjoying these classes...what a great group of students. I will try to post updates here monthly, and if you ever need any other information please don't hesitate to contact me by visiting the "Contact Me" page on this website.
We have been hard at work in science class so far. Students have... - Practiced "Science Skills" like writing clear and detailed instructions - Taken a pre-unit assessment to find out what they know before the class begins - Started our first unit, "Matter and Energy in Ecosystems" Cheers to a great school year! Welcome back to school! Spring Semester is a busy time for your student. In science class, they will start Unit 4 (Processes That Shape Earth's Resources and Ecosystems), participate in the Science Fair, and take their second Science Benchmark Test. I hope we all take this time to reset ourselves; please remind your student of your expectations of them, and your support for them. Hopefully they can come back to school feeling refreshed and excited to learn. The Science Fair is taking place on April 11th - we are starting work right away! Please be on the look out for a info sheet coming your way; it is also attached to this post. Cheers to second semester! Good luck everyone! -Ms. Cliffe
Hello parents! We have been very busy in science class studying chemical reactions during Unit 3. I have seen so many of the students develop great lab skills - carefully reading instructions, following complex procedures, helping each other understand, and - importantly - having fun while they learn. Please enjoy these pictures, and ask your child about what they have been learning!
Hola padres! |
